In 2013, ICHA’s program in India, Project Ignite, began. Project Ignite is a partnership between ICHA, UCSF, and the Tribal Health Initiative (THI), an NGO in India with a commitment to improving the health of the tribal population in the Sittilingi Valley in Southern India. Through Project Ignite, ICHA has helped THI educate community health workers to check blood pressures, record blood pressure data, diagnose hypertension, prescribe continuing medications for chronic hypertensive patients, and refer uncontrolled hypertensive patients to higher levels of care. UCSF has helped create high-quality clinical standards and provide ongoing teaching and monitoring for local health care providers. In addition, ICHA is implementing evaluation and monitoring systems to ensure that blood pressure management occurs appropriately, and we are currently helping THI set up a secure electronic tablet system that will streamline patient data across village, clinic, and hospital settings.
